No, this isn’t a post about the Lord of the Rings, although I do often feel a bit like a hobbit (probably more in the form of Sam than Frodo, I admit). There’s also the fact that a lot of the time I feel like I’m climbing Mt Doom. However, the rings I’m talking about today are the ones that taunt me every day from my wrist.
I received a present from my husband on his return from an overseas trip earlier this year.
I resisted the iWatch trend for as long as I could. I have enough problems with how attached we’ve all become to our phones, I really didn’t think I wanted everything right there on my wrist all the time too. Having said that though, I admit I have grown to love it. Believe it or not, I spend much less time looking at either my phone or my watch than I used to.
What I do look at, however, are the activity rings that are a feature of the watch. One ring monitors your general movement, one monitors your exercise and one monitors your standing. No diet is complete without the exercise component and, as you know, I’m supposed to be walking a race in the Hawkes Bay in May. So you’d think completing my circles would be a breeze. Well, not so much.
Let’s just say that the green circles are for exercise and, as you can see, there aren’t too many closed ones of those. In my own defence, I’ll say that February looked better! Since then, however, I’ve had x-rays on my foot and now I’m waiting for an MRI, as I injured my foot in January and it’s still causing me problems. So walking has been off the table for a while and my exercise rings have not closed! (Apparently I’m not too bad at standing once an hour and generally moving about during the day – probably on my way to the pantry!)
Well, I refuse to look at another month of open exercise rings, so I have taken steps. Yesterday I finally made my way back into the pool – I used to be quite the swimmer – and it was great to be back in the water. I have also signed up for a weekly Reformer Pilates class. Both of these forms of exercise don’t cause me any problems with my foot. My back, on the other hand…
Anyway, wish me luck at closing those rings. I’ll report back at the beginning of next month to see if the picture looks any better.
And speaking of reporting back, Janet wanted me to say hello from her too. She’s been absolutely flat out lately and hasn’t had time to stop past the blog, but she promises she will stop in soon.
